Виноградное дерево. Жаботикаба. Как растёт это редкое растение. Жаботикаба. Известны и другие наименования этого вида из рода Плиния – жабутикаба, бразильское виноградное дерево, а также джаботикаба. Это очень необычное растение. Необычно не только его название, но и внешний вид. Цветки этого деревца распускаются и завязываются в ягодки не на ветках, как это обычно бывает у других растений, а на стволе. В Центральной и Восточной Европе многие никогда не слышали о джаботикабе и, тем более, не видели этой удивительное дерево. Удивляют экзотические плоды жаботикабы тем, что растут они прямо на стволах, что выглядит очень необычно. Подобное явление носит название каулифлория и встречается достаточно редко. Округлые глянцевые плоды – костянки диаметром 0,55-4,5 см отличаются темно-бордово-фиолетовым цветом, близким к черному оттенку. Растут они гроздьями, напоминая внешним видом виноград. Ценятся за сочную мякоть с полупрозрачной желеобразной консистенцией розоватого или белого цвета. Вкус у ягод кисловато-сладкий с виноградными нотками. Когда дерево начинает плодоносить, кажется, будто его ствол покрывается фиолетовыми бородавками. Have you ever heard of Jaboticaba fruit? Its a tropical fruit native to South America and especially popular in Brazil. The fruit looks like a muscadine grape but the inside is creamier and looks milky white. It has a of grape/yogurt/lychee type of flavor which I love. The trees are slow growing at first and need to be a certain size before it can fruit. I bought this plant as a tiny 3 gallon size tree and planted it here about 3 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to find flowers for the first time! Jaboticaba perfectly represents one of the reasons I grow my own food - to be able to eat rare or unique fruits and veggies that you cant find at the grocery store.
