For more information, log on to- 🤍 Download the study materials here- 🤍 A single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP, pronounced snip; plural snips) is a DNA sequence variation occurring when a single nucleotide — A, T, C or G — in the genome (or other shared sequence) differs between members of a biological species or paired chromosomes in a human. For example, two sequenced DNA fragments from different individuals, AAGCCTA to AAGCTTA, contain a difference in a single nucleotide. In this case we say that there are two alleles. Almost all common SNPs have only two alleles. The genomic distribution of SNPs is not homogenous; SNPs usually occur in non-coding regions more frequently than in coding regions or, in general, where natural selection is acting and fixating the allele of the SNP that constitutes the most favorable genetic adaptation.[1] Other factors, like genetic recombination and mutation rate, can also determine SNP density.[2] SNP density can be predicted by the presence of microsatellites: AT microsatellites in particular are potent predictors of SNP density, with long (AT)(n) repeat tracts tending to be found in regions of significantly reduced SNP density and low GC content.[3] Within a population, SNPs can be assigned a minor allele frequency — the lowest allele frequency at a locus that is observed in a particular population. This is simply the lesser of the two allele frequencies for single-nucleotide polymorphisms. There are variations between human populations, so a SNP allele that is common in one geographical or ethnic group may be much rarer in another. These genetic variations between individuals (particularly in non-coding parts of the genome) are exploited in DNA fingerprinting, which is used in forensic science . Also, these genetic variations underlie differences in our susceptibility to disease. The severity of illness and the way our body responds to treatments are also manifestations of genetic variations. For example, a single base mutation in the APOE (apolipoprotein E) gene is associated with a higher risk for Alzheimer disease.[4] Source of the article published in description is Wikipedia. Health Secretary Michael Matheson is facing a no confidence vote after he racked up an £11,000 data roaming bill on his parliamentary iPad. The senior SNP MSP will be subject to the move unless he hands over the device for scrutiny. Matheson has claimed the £10,935 bill relates solely to "parliamentary and constituency-related" work he carried out on holiday in Morocco last Christmas time. He eventually pledged to pay back the charges in full, saying an “outdated” SIM card in the device had contributed to the high costs. Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross has now issued the Health Secretary with an ultimatum. Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland's longest-serving first minister, made a surprising move earlier this year by resigning her position, leaving political observers puzzled. Subscribe to Guardian News on YouTube ► 🤍 However, the unexpected developments didn't end there. Sturgeon was arrested by police investigating allegations of financial misconduct in the SNP after her husband, Peter Murrell, was arrested as part of the same investigation, plunging the party into turmoil. Penny Mordaunt, the Commons leader, has claimed that young Scots will have “somewhere safe and warm to take heroin” as a result of the SNP’s “appalling legacy”. She took aim at the SNP’s record, including its support for a drug consumption facility, after saying the party was on her list of things that she is “standing up and fighting against”. The criticism came in response to comments made by Deidre Brock, the SNP Commons leader, who mocked Mordaunt’s speech at the Conservative Party conference in which she repeatedly urged people to “stand up and fight”. This comes after Humza Yousaf admitted the Scottish Government had interpreted requests from the inquiry for WhatsApp messages sent during the pandemic “too narrowly”. However Scotland’s First Minister rejected claims from opponents that he had deliberately misled Holyrood about the timeline of his Government’s dealings with the inquiry. Mr Sarwar said: ''True scale of the cover-up, many fear is taking place is still unclear because this SNP government has repeatedly refused to answer even some of the most basic questions.'' More than £14 million of taxpayers' cash was spent on credit card transactions by Scottish civil servants in three years, figures obtained by Scottish Labour revealed. The spending included almost £10,000 on VIP airport upgrades, yoga classes, nail polish, and a £4,182 stay at Gleneagles Hotel while Nicola Sturgeon was First Minister. A Holyrood spokesperson confirmed that First Minister Hamza Yousaf has ordered a review of spending on government-issued bank cards. The Scottish Tories led a debate calling for a 12-month pause on the short-term lets licensing scheme, which will see short-term let properties, such as Airbnb and guest houses, regulated in the same way as hotels and caravan parks. Hosts must apply by October 1 or face a £2,500 fine if they continue operating. Housing minister Paul McLennan said the Scottish Government would not be considering a further delay, having already delayed the implementation by six months. Brian Whittle said: 'There is simply no way that the Scottish Government can stand there and say that this scheme is the best one and the right one and that it is ready to go. As Paul McLennan said in his opening statement, he wrote to members. In one paragraph, he encouraged hosts to sign up for the scheme, and in the next he told us that he was planning to make further changes. If a meal is ready, we generally do not need to change the recipe after it has been served'. Mr Whittle finished by saying: 'The Scottish Government needs to change course, pause the scheme and work with providers to create a system that properly recognises the diversity and range of short-term lets across Scotland. If it chooses not to do so, it will have no one but itself to blame for sinking Scotland’s tourism sector'. After a vote, MSPs have declined to delay a controversial new licensing scheme for short-term let operators following a heated Holyrood debate. The question that I am often asked is what is a SNP and what does it mean to me? Well let us take a step back. Let us gain a foundation...want I want you to picture is the 3d representation of a gene which looks like a ladder that has been twisted, so two spiral strands that parallel one another and in between those strands are perpendicular lines similar to the rungs on a ladder. Those rungs of the genetic ladder are made up of a pair of nucleotides. The nucleotides are Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine, and Thymine each referenced in the code from their first letter, A, G, C and T respectively. So where does your code come from…. It is inherited from your mother and your father. Imagine if you were spelling out a word like APPLE and instead of spelling it A- P- P -L -E you replaced one of the P’s with an L so you A- P- L -L -E. You may pronounce that word differently now. When coming back to your genetic code that alteration, the L replacing the P, is considered a SNP. In your body the significance of this “error” or what's referred to as a variant is that it may change the downstream outcome, like in the spelling example, pronouncing the word differently but in the cell this variant alters a protein and its enzymatic function or reaction decreasing or enhancing its ability. This alteration, when expressed, can lead to potential problems like decreased ability to detoxify chemicals, hormones, pharmaceuticals, or other toxicants. Or may indicate that you require a different form of a specific nutrient to alter, normalize or enhance that enzymes response. Looking at SNPs is an exciting cutting edge science, and as we continue to learn more every day, this data will continue to help guide practitioners and more importantly you to make decisions that align with your genetics to achieve your goals and pursue a limitless potential. Mapping out the SNPs that we understand can reveal amazing things from your risk factors of developing a disease and then an action plan on how to modify or reduce that risk; learn what types of foods proteins carbohydrates and fats would benefit your biochemistry, to the type of micronutrients you may need to consume to protect your mitochondria, to what type of exercise or athletic event your body would most succeed all the way to figuring out whether you possess certain SNPs that have been associated with living a longer healthier life...and much more. The future of health-care the future of the way we as physicians deliver recommendations and the way you implement strategies in your life will change from focusing on the average individual to focusing on YOU, your genetics, your environment, your lifestyle, food, water relationships, light, EMF, mindset and more. It is an exciting time to be alive and realize that with this information you can succeed in exceeding. This is Dr. Rudy Mueller from SLIMITLESS remember to live happy, live healthily and affect others positively.
